Life lessons learned through Ja Morant

I have always had the passion of sports in my life. Using the glory of the amazing history of sports to distract myself from the hard eviorment that I had grew up in the tough streets of Roanoke,Virginia.

NBA relatable

This avenue gave me a consistent outlet in life to go to when trouble creeped around the corner. And many of the same stories our athletes can relate to. Especially, in the NBA where a lot of players come from poverty and the ghetto’s. 80% of the players in the NBA are black just like me. Most look up to the African American culture where negativity can some times be promoted. When it comes to the situation with Ja Morant , this is a lesson that can be learned from not just him but the younger generation.

Young Star in his own way

A report from https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10068971-report-grizzlies-ja-morant-leaves-florida-counseling-program-met-with-adam-silver Where young superstar Ja Morant had to meet with the commissioner of the NBA from a video surfacing of Morant flashing a firearm in night club in Colorado . Morant took a big brand hit as good light has started to faded away from the young star. The media attacked Morant’s character all week stemming from this unfortunate situation. However, the light started to shine on Morant when a story was broken that Morant had gotten into a physical altercation with a minor in the summer of his rookie season. This of course went viral and Morant was questioned by thousands across the world.

My advice

My advice to Morant is to appreciate his time in the NBA as a young superstar . We as the African American community stand proud for the endearment of our black superstars but we don’t condone any behavior that spreads an already bad stereotype. When we find success we stay away from the trouble the world brings us.

Ja is a great player but having him as role model is a big issue if he behaves this way further more. So many kids and teenagers look up to him and his talents on the floor he has to set a better example for the generation that follows.

Like Gilbert….

Guns are legal in the United States but the NBA has strict rules when it comes to fire arms, dating back to the situation with point guard Gilbert Arenas where he brought a gun inside a NBA facility. This is why the NBA has to show an example out of Morant by suspending him 8 games for misconduct. This news has been huge as the grizzles still look to make a playoff push in a tough western conference.

Morant has set his team behind due toward a silly mistake our young men fall for frequently. His talents our out of this world but, if your not head strong you can’t last in this league simple mistakes can get you kicked out of this amazing honor.

Apology

Morant has put out out multiple statements apologizing to the masses about the situation and what he has learned. hopefully his talk with Adam silver will change his actions going forward.
